They would be insane not to bring Hahn back as soon as possible, she’s the biggest breakout villain casting the MCU has had since... I don’t know, Michael B Jordan maybe?

slowthai and Slaves actually had worked together before, on slowthai’s song “Missing”! not to downplay your post or “Momentary Bliss”, which is an absolutely excellent tune and one of Albarn’s best recent works
Oh yeah, that’s another episode that leaves me pretty cleaned out by the end. When “Come Sail Away” kicks in as Troy is riding away... goddamn that show could hit an emotional beat right on the head
Abed’s monologue in the final episode of Community, especially when he says “because eventually it all will” and you can hear Danny Pudi’s voice on the edge of breaking, never fails to absolutely turn me inside out. Between that and Jeff hugging Abed the second time when they say goodbye, I’m totally gutted by the…
I love St Vincent as much as anyone, loved the last album, but that new song is absolutely dreadful to me. It also doesn't remind me of Marry Me or Actor in the slightest, it sounds like a bad riff on Young Americans more than anything else.
“Love More” was already one of the best songs of its decade
The Fall Out Boy piece in They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us is genuinely one of the greatest pieces of music analysis I've ever encountered
Revival is a cut below 11.22.63 for me, but both are fantastic later-career works for sure. The latter is what I'll turn to for epic, moving, reference-heavy King nonsense, but Revival has a strong case as just a short, nasty, deeply unsettling book
I think you’re right, and fair point. I wasn’t trying to say I prefer when King rushes out several books a year, he’s definitely best when he takes his time, but I just wanted to lightly push back against the suggestion that he has no modern classics
Yeah, the ending is so, so good. I know Joe Hill suggested it and all, props to him for steering us away from a classic King anticlimax, but its still King choosing all the words and phrasing, and doing an absolutely tremendous job of it. That whole last chapter is some of his best, imo, maybe only topped for…
I thought 11.22.63 was his late-career masterpiece personally
the drumming on this record is absolutely exceptional and she played every instrument herself! damn what a talent
I’ll go further than that and say Season 4 of AoS is, straight up, the best live-action Marvel content. They’ve come close (for me with Winter Soldier, Ragnarok and now WandaVision) but nothing has topped that season’s ability to translate all the best stuff about comic books to the screen.
The only thing I disagree with in this review is “Good Grief” - that song is so good. In the running for my favourite song here with “Just a Lover” and “Inordinary”. Now both her solo albums have been knockouts in completely different styles, I cannot wait to hear her next work
This release week was all about Hayley Williams and Black Country, New Road for me. One tender, singer-songwriter solo album about healing and trauma, and one ridiculous post-punk pastiche with horn breakdowns and irony and eight-minute songs
you’re right. both are extremely good, in very different ways and offering very different (quality) output
I actually really liked Concrete & Gold. It’s no classic, sure, but it was a fun attempt at bringing out the latent poppiness of their style, with the usual handful of homerun tracks (“The Sky is a Neighborhood”, “Dirty Water” and the title track were especially great)
the whole album is among the best I heard in the 2010s, honestly. they killed it
I thought that was weird, too. have people really heard “Jacked Up” and still don’t think he has a strong voice, especially for his age?
X-Cops is one of those latter-day episodes, like John Doe, Via Negativa and Darin Morgan’s revival episodes, that reminds you how good the X-Files could be when CC’s iron grip of making everything bullshit conspiracy nonsense relaxed a little
