Irving came back and there was a Carly Rae Jepsen needle drop. this was the greatest episode of TV of all time

yeah, the score playing through the tracking shot of the Deus group was truly spectacular
Modest Mouse's first three undoubtedly deal with enough common thematic material to qualify here even if they're not three-act strict narratives. God The Moon & Antarctica is just incredible
I thought the Pale Horse dialogue from last week was very well-referenced right towards the end, when there was a flashing red light in the warehouse as Will took out all the KKK members that really stood out among the black-and-white.
they also released two other soundtracks this WEEK after With Teeth DE last week, because they're goddamn kings
it’s the best movie I’ve seen in cinemas since Into the Spider-verse, personally. just an unbelievable blast of fun and quality filmmaking
k
huge Gorillaz fan and that’s my birthday = hell yes
yes, I did acknowledge that he fit the technical definition of a one-hit wonder, I was just noting that it was a shame to write him off with that like he only had one good song. the others I mentioned are from the album Like Drawing Blood, which is worth making an active effort to listen to if you can - it’s great
mostly fair points but I think it’s a shame to write off Gotye as a ‘one-hit wonder’ even if it’s technically true. of course him releasing nothing since Making Mirrors hasn’t exactly helped, but people forget he released some of the most interesting and artful pop of the last decade and really made a huge impact, at…
yeah, that’s a pretty bad omission, I agree. still can’t believe how good that Tribe album is and how completely they clicked after all that time.
Bino was pretty much my first rapper too, maybe alongside Kendrick. both were massive in my first year uni friend group (on reflection... not hugely surprising lol) and they were really the gateway into my larger appreciation of rap.
The back half of WORRY. really is something else. The Abbey Road of pop-punk is a pretty significant achievement, wouldn’t you say?
Those are my two favourite QOTSA releases as well, haha. Songs for the Deaf has some amazing moments, but I’ve never understood why it’s held up as their best album all the time - it’s super uneven. (And ...Like Clockwork has “I Appear Missing”, so).
Norman fucking Rockwell was terrific, and I’ve generally found Lana kind of really hard to like but she hit it out of the park. I don’t know if it’s a decade best for me, but if I was doing songs, “Venice Bitch” is probably top 50
I have the exact same thoughts. The only one that’s even come close for me is the Foos’ Wasting Light, which rocks a bit harder and was amazingly produced, but on a songwriting level Like Clockwork is just in a tier of its own
I liked Cohen's comeback a lot, but I think the only one I'd nominate for a decade list is You Want it Darker, which had some of his strongest songs since the 80s
DAMN is... fine. as a more accessible, less concept-heavy move it’s understandable he’d want to make it, and it has some real highs in “FEAR” and “LOVE”, but like... it’s just kind of boring compared to what he’s capable of. even the beats are just generally a bit more soulless and generic than what he usually works…
good kid 100% deserves that spot over DAMN though, that album has held up amazingly well
I’m glad James Blake had an appearance on here, but honestly I’m pretty shocked Overgrown made the cut ahead of his self-titled. one gave us a pretty good single, one pretty much completely changed the game and gave us songs that are basically looking like timeless classics at this point, “The Wilhelm Scream” foremost…
