I think the main problem is simply that King is one of the best character writers, if not the absolute best, and translating his brilliant narrative voice to the screen is just goddamn hard. No matter how excellent a dialogue writer you are, capturing the inner monologues of, say, Richie or Jack Torrance’s backstory

that one definitely has the more emotional stakes going for it, Faith’s arc in that season was so well done

My personal reaction: the Depp revelation was dumb even before we found out he was a piece of shit, because you’re replacing Fantastic Actor Colin Farrell with Shitty Actor Who Plays Every Role The Same Way Johnny Depp as the series villain. Just fucking keep Farrell, like, c’mon!

It seems pretty exploitative nowadays, but that Spike/Slayer fight is probably the best in the whole series

Put me down for Find the River if Nightswimming plays before it, the way God and Michael Stipe intended

Season 1 had an episode with Mickey, Jack and Rose all in the TARDIS together

It’s as Ann as the nose on plain’s face.

My bad - had comments set on “staff” not “community” so I didn’t see he’d already replied with that info (Kinja is weird)

Digits is incredible too

That’s definitely not a myth - the song’s about Mykel & Carli, who were also fairly well-known for being big enough Weezer fans to have a song called “Mykel & Carli” written about them. That song uses “hear you me” in the refrain because they would say it all the time, apparently, which is also why Jimmy Eat World

“The furthest the record strays into darkness is its opening track and lead single”

you should be keen - Capaldi’s last three episodes is one of the more intimate/lokwey/beautiful farewells a Doctor has had

Why is it so damn hard to convince people to watch Halt and Catch Fire? I sometimes feel like I dreamed that show up cos no one I’ve met in real life watched the damn thing

The Prophet’s Song might be their best cut overall, agreed

Yeah, the latest season was the only one without much hint of comedy (the episode where Jack and Ashi hooked up was going for that, but kind of missed the mark). There were some genuinely hilarious episodes in the original run, like Aku telling the children his version of the story where Jack was the evil one.

It’s All Crazy definitely does have its moments (King Beetle on a Coconut Estate especially is a clear top 5 song of theirs), it just lost the way a little and didn’t quite land all of the experiments it tried. I gotta stand up for Ten Stories as being their most underrated album - the song-to-song flow is

You should definitely give them another chances - Pale Horses in particular is an easy contender for their best album imo :)

A Song For a Son was worse, I think

The Hobbit was an incredibly well-cast trilogy that did absolutely nothing worthwhile with literally any of said brilliant casting.

could not remember its name for the life of me, thanks!
