Yeah. It's got these little sparks of real ingenuity and satire, but it's mostly about 80s references and how great the protagonist is at everything and how he'll totally get the girl in the end even though he's a fat awkward kid.

I read the whole thing. It's basically the male-nerd equivalent of the Twilight saga. Just masturbatory wish fulfillment from start to finish. There are some interesting ideas here and there about how the VR world works, and some half-clever social commentary with the "stacks" of trailer homes a lot of the world lives…
I couldn't agree more! I enjoyed it enough, and will be watching S2, but couldn't help but feel like it cheated its narrative and short-changed its characters (shameless personal review plug here! http://mediummashup.com/wes…
Season 1 is tough, and not remotely on the same plane of greatness as S2 and 3. You still need to get through it to fully appreciate the later seasons, though.
You're right. It's still nuts.
Yeah, Margo Martindale's nominations for S2 and 3 (for supporting actress, I believe) was bonkers. And I LOVE Margo Martindale.
And don't forget House of Cards! The Emmy nominations are sort of like a tenure program.
Like, she's fine in the episode, and she's great in S1 and 2, but the idea that somebody watched the show, or even JUST THAT EPISODE, and thought that she was the most noteworthy thing about it is crazy.
Found a full list, and you're right, she's up for it. So they nominated the person who's only in a single fucking episode this year over Carrie Coon, Justin Theroux, and the series itself. That's the Emmy's!
It's extremely clear that nobody in the academy even watched The Leftovers.
Yeah, DA:O basically lifted FFXII’s gambit system wholesale, but didn’t implement it quite as well, in my opinion. I could be wrong, since I haven’t played either game in at least half a decade, but I think FFXII gives you a lot more options for programming your party.
The thing is, there's nothing in the constitution that allows a sitting president to be indicted, let alone prosecuted and convicted. So even if the FBI presents evidence that he's guilty of treason, if the Rebublicans don't want to impeach him, he doesn't face any consequences until he's out of office.
It's a convoluted situation.
That would have been before Scott Buck took over as showrunner, so yeah, probably.
Yeah, he literally murders someone in the first season and pushes somebody else in front of a train at the start of the second. It was stupid trash from the start, but it's so well directed and acted that it took people a long time to figure it out.
Most of the comments in this thread can be grouped into two categories: those who have seen s3 of The Leftovers and consider it the best show of the year, and those who haven't seen s3 of The Leftovers.
Yeah, given that most critics use a 4-star scale, compiling all of those scores and averaging them onto a 100-point Metacritic scale doesn't really do anything justice. Rotten Tomatoes isn't perfect either but it at least lets you know if something is universally liked or universally disliked.
It's a necessary evil. Studios just aren't bankrolling mid-budget original ideas anymore, so if all it takes to get the facade of a "franchise" of original scripts, then I'll take it.
It also just doesn't fit Spider-Man as a character/property. The whole draw of the character's powers are speed and fluidity, so the stalk-enemies-from-vantage-points gameplay doesn't make sense the way it does in the Arkham series. Hopefully they put some effort into making web swinging fun, since no game has nailed…
Agreed. I actually really liked the AV Club review of Nier: Automata, and it was one of the key reasons I bought the game. But then I played it and re-read, and it doesn't sound like Nick actually played through to the REAL end (in route C). I'd love to hear more thoughts on that.
