You hit the nail on the head. That’s the first problem with all genre-gatekeeping arguments like the ones lobbed against FF13. In essence, they all boil down to “This is a bad game because I didn’t like it. Games I like have X, Y, and Z. This game did not have X or Y, and it did Z very poorly. Therefore it is a bad

I’m just commenting to say that Shadowbringers is legit amazing and only makes me more frustrated more of their games don’t have writing that good.

Most of the items you cite are only bad if you except the premise that they are bad. For example, is linearity bad? It depends who you ask and what the context is. For instance, I like FFX and Xenosaga.

FFXV was sooo open at the beginning that I never really gave a shit about the main quest. Open world is overdone and overrated.

it is kinda funny that just a few years later, dark souls would come out and tell an entire story exclusively through database entries and everyone cums for that game

Final Fantasy XIII had a really interesting setting. An entire world that exists inside of a giant sphere most people have never seen the outside of, which turns out to be a tiny fraction of the size of the world outside, which is huge and spread out and untamed. The whole fal’cie/l’cie dynamic was pretty interesting,

I’ve been saying for years that FFXIII isn’t anywhere near as bad as all the shouting on the internet makes it seem to be. It is linear for a good chunk of the game, but does open up at chapter 10 and as pointed out FFX had pretty linear design as well but for some reason no one ever points that out.

I liked FFXIII, my biggest beef was that in order to get the “get one of every weapon and accessory” trophy you have to do an incredibly excessive amount of grinding and farming. I didn’t mind the linearity of the first 75% of the game. To be honest, all things considered, I liked it better than FFXV. FFXV starts out

I agree with you. I was more emotionally invested in FFX than I ever was with FFXV, and the ending resonated more with me.

Sorry but I have to wholeheartedly disagree. FFXV had the most incomplete story of all the installments and that’s why the ending also fell flat. It was emotional - sure. But especially now that we have the Ardyn DLC this ending is just a slap to the face.

Don’t get me wrong - it’s not because the ending was sad. FFX

Very strongly disagree. The ending made my eyes roll back so far into my head I feel over.

This so much. The story is so badly told in FF15, nothing really invested me. And I am a guy who LOVES playing video games for their stories, even mediocre ones. Even the very end is played in reverse order! So you don’t get any emotional impact from any of it. The very last cutscene should have been played BEFORE

I just wish i could've slogged through the boring combat and terrible open world system to finish this game, but it's just plain not fun. I found this to be the worst final fantasy released. Not to mention basically forced inactivity as you simply auto pilot the car.  I simply couldn't make it.

man I hate this game with infinite rage:

Nah, Final Fantasy XIV Shadow Bringers has one of the best endings in this series.

I actually think FFX has a better ending. It was far more emotional for me and warped up the whole game pretty nicely even if it was sad.

FFXV feel a little similar but it was just too abrupt.

It’s nice because I never found Zenos quite as compelling in Stormblood. Intimidating, maybe but the story tried too hard to sell me on his badassery. Emet-Selch feels far more multi-dimensional and it really helps lift the story up.

It’s too eager to fall into fatphobic tropes and use gluttony as shorthand for greed and decay.”

Spoilers:

I found KH3 super disappointing, and, frankly, I didn’t even have wild expectations. It is just paced terribly, seems to think I don’t remember that they spoiled the midpoint twist in the trailer, and has a plot that borders on awful.
