Saying that because women aren't sexist against women they fit into category two is also saying that women "don't need to be affected by" the sexism that is done to them, which is obviously false.

First. I'd say there's a 5th group here—people who are subject to this kind of treatment, for whom seeing it recognized can be incredibly important. I think you should think about why you didn't include that group in "people."

Pessimistic, but well articulated, and I have an answer.

Batman Begins was really just one point on a long continuum of efforts to legitimize the superhero medium, which I would argue started with Superman: The Movie. The tagline, "You will believe a man can fly," is basically saying "this is a superhero movie that you can actually take seriously, for a change." That was

However, doing nothing and saying nothing never helps.

But "why the behavior is wrong" basically boils down to "because it hurts people." If they're not intuitive or self-aware enough to see that they're hurting people without such instruction, I don't think they'd be intuitive or self-aware enough to realize the instruction applies to them.

It wasn't until someone told me that my words or actions were racist that I had any clue that they were. Granted, I didn't take it well at first, but people calling me out on my actions was the first step towards correcting the problem: recognizing that it exists.

Dear every dude saying and about to say "But I don't treat women this way!" Great! Thanks! Problem solved!

Just as long as she doesn't get raped. Not even metaphorically.

I never said they didn't; I was refuting your mindless regurgitation of the common misconception that the Comics Code had anything at all to do with that. Anybody who's had any exposure at all to the comics from that time would know that Superman was a grinning boy scout by about 1940 (and Batman wasn't far behind),

I can read it just fine, can you?

Coincidentally, "pure joy" is also one of the leading reasons Marvel Studios movies are so much better than what DC is feeding us.

Batman and Superman were sanitized to be kid-friendly about a decade before the Comics Code was instituted. Also, nobody was ever in any danger of going to jail over the content of mainstream comicbooks, they were only ever in danger of losing money (which is why DC relentlessly pandered to juveniles for decades,

I've enjoyed some DC films too - but I didn't leave the theater with an upbeat, optimistic feeling that brought me back to see them again right away.

It's not wrong to be a poor steward of something that millions of people love? Why not?

Only if you're one of these people who think Whedon walks on water and everything he writes is divine scripture.

I actively dislike Dr. Horrible,

Lucas doesn't need our forgiveness, he didn't do anything wrong.

Is that where they got the idea for those pesky balloon side-quests in the Spider-Man 2 video game? Because that's exactly how it ends up every time I try it.

Hey I'm just as sad as you that Superman was shown to be a fallible man-alien instead of the all knowing God he's usually portrayed as but to me that is far more interesting than magic reset buttons or cellophane S's.
