I call them carts, as in short for cartridges, cause that's what they are. Cards are flat, carts aren't flat. SD cards are flat, 3DS carts have a substantial amount of depth to them.

I'm guessing since the engine renders with voxels it might be pretty demanding to render at high res on a single thread.

Depending on the nature of the VM and how it's implemented anything up to full kernel-mode access of the host OS can be opened up.
