IMHO, lorewise, there's nothing that specifies that either the incarnation of Hylia, the Hero, or Demise would have to be a certain gender. However as the goddess is female I'd reckon she'd continue to choose to reincarnate in a female form.

So, a female Link would be plausible. Male Zelda though..

There's nothing that says the incarnation of the Hero can't be female; having a male Zelda may be contradicting lore though, as Zelda is the incarnation of the goddess Hylia.
