Hey, you weren’t rude to me, all good. I do enjoy debating anyways, so we’re AOK. Enjoy your week!

Right. And as gas stations here, or internet down south have shown, it’s that reducing the total number of competitors in a market always leads to lower pricing.
So what? So why am I going to be asked to pay more for zero damn benefit to myself? I can already get a discount the way things are now. I cannot if the manufacturer gets exclusive control.
Neat, and I’m not arguing you should lose that option. You can already just factory order from the manufacturer and retrieve it when it comes in (Or just literally pay full pop at a dealer). I’m not arguing that you should lose that choice. I’m only arguing that I shouldn’t lose mine. I like the current system,…
They’re already at the competitive price as-is, and now there’s even less competitive options. You don’t lower your price when buyers have even less options. A Honda dealer might lower their price to entice someone to pick them over the half a dozen other Honda dealers in the area; Honda being the only “dealer”…
Alright, put yourself in to a manufacturer’s shoes for a moment. You’re Bob, president of Toyota North America.
Those discounts are already a thing, completely as-is. I think relying on profit-driven companies to walk away from gross when they have zero reason to is the biggest leap of faith possible.
And for what it’s worth, I agree with you there: People should definitely still have the option to order direct. But to have a manufacturer do direct sales only is where I draw the line in the sand.
So, if it’s any consolation, I no longer work in car sales, I’m not going to be offended, no worries.
If the manufacturers are going direct-only, by its very nature it means no dealerships. You can’t just fire one up because you feel like it, the manufacturer also has to OK you for it. The article isn’t referencing the pre-existing option to buy from a manufacturer, it’s referring to going exclusively that route.
So, that’s the way it already is with car manufacturers. That’s the way it is across the vast majority of industries. That’s the way it would continue to be given the lack of competition.
Which, again, is already an option. I should mention - I don’t sell cars anymore, so you couldn’t “buy from me” in any case. But for future reference: Go to Ford.ca - set up the car how you like it. Confirm the order. Pay for it. Pick it up after it’s built. Go nuts, fill your boots.
Most people still went through a dealer (Back when I sold cars)
I mean, you have objective proof that they won’t - they don’t already, nor does basically every other industry. If I buy a Beaver Buzz from London Drugs, it costs me a toonie. I own an audiology company - for me to buy components from the manufacturers is exactly the same cost as me just buying them from distributors.…
I’ve said it dozens of times already, but Jalopnik keeps making me say it:
Agreed fully. Also: I loved the last line.
The driver of the dump truck was unharmed.
Why we’re translating those units in the first place is completely beyond me, let alone the fact they’re mistranslated.
So what is that in actual units?
That’s one job for them. I wasn’t in construction all that long (I think about 2 or 3 years, but it was a while back) and I’d still seen probably a good 50+ worksites over that time. Trust me, being able to drive in to a muddy pit, loaded up with stuff, isn’t something you have to wait very long to try out. On big…
