Here are a few techniques I’ve learned:

1. Occasionally (i.e. don’t do it too often) act stupid and ask them to explain the racist, sexist, etc. joke. When they’re forced to say, “because black people are lazy,” it usually causes them to pause. Now, if they’re loud and proud about that, there’s not much to do.

2. Go

This.

Going to HR was the worst mistake I ever made. I should have done two things differently: 1) contact an attorney for documentation strategies, 2) apply for other jobs.

The article is spot-on. Only go to HR if you feel that you have lots of objective evidence, it can be corroborated, others have complained, etc.

Careful here. Avoid friends who are likely to agree with you because you’re tight. I see plenty of unfounded drama at work when a group of like minded people gather and rallies against the dept. only to find they are actually out of line.

Smart strategy, and of course the Eagles won. That asshole only beats women.

You know you fucked up when Philadelphia has the moral high ground

This is as important a story as Deadspin has ever done. My contempt for Hardy, Jones and Goodell is matched only by my admiration for Diana’s epic reporting.

This is beyond horrifying.

When I worked I a hospital we had a nasty old white woman who hated everyone and was a frequent flyer in our unit. One day her nurse was my friend J. J is in her room talking to her while she assesses her and the lady started in on how awful all these black nurses are and how happy she is she has a good white nurse

Nurses are there to take care of people, not to tell them what kind of people to be. It would have been completely inappropriate for her to take that upon herself and very likely would have got her called on the carpet.

Almost no one, except for c-suite assholes, can say whatever they want at work, no matter the work we do. We just can’t.

I’m a regular doctor... I am constantly blown away by how committed nurses are to their patients. It actually taught me a lot coming out of med school and even residency when young doctors are trained how to compete and impress superiors over truly empathizing with patients. Love it x 10

My old roommate was a nurse. We lived down the street from our city’s main hospital, and we wanted another roommate to help out with rent. She was not the most ideal roommate for my best friend, but I liked her enough that one Sunday afternoon we walked down to the gas station to pick up some 40s so we could day drink

I just have to say, I love nurses. My parents are nurses, my wife is a nurse, my aunt is a nurse, and nurses have been the best advocates for me whenever I’m hospitalized (which is, sadly, far too often.) Ya’ll are doing amazing work, and I wouldn’t have made it these last 29 years without the help of nurses.

My wife just assisted in a woman get a golf-ball sized cyst lanced on her labia in the ER.

The moral of the story is, don’t run a marathon.

That’s her point- those opinions are fucking dumb and unsolicited. Just posting a picture of her cereal is NOT a solicitation for public comment.

it isn’t unreasonable for someone to comment that dyes aren’t really healthy for the baby

no. NO. because ERRYTHING can cause fetal abnormalities if you eat enough of it, or ear it wrong.

Seriously. if you can name a single, solitary thing that doesn’t carry risk, I’ll paypal you everything in my account (it’s like, 7 cents).
