JLA was a Goddamned dump.

Better =/= completely fixed.

Do you not understand what a DDA is?

While nobody’s going to deify Illitch, can you imagine what Detroit would look like today without all of the investment Illitch and Olympia have poured in over the last 20 years?

Michigan people absolutely love this man. I’m going to defer to them.

With the abundance of land in Detroit, it was really poor city planning in the first place to build the FAIL JAIL in Downtown Detroit. Furthermore, the original deal with the construction bid reeked of corruption all the way up to Kwame Kilpatrick. It’s been a terrible eyesore in downtown Detroit (which says a lot),

So I’m doing the math and it seems like the city would win one this. Current courthouse estimates cost at $420 mil. Gilbert is willing to build one for $300 mil. As long as the future credits are less than $120 mil, the city wins.

I live in Detroit. That jail has been a bigger waste of tax payer money than a stadium could ever be. With many people flooding downtown bringing much needed tax revenue into the city, a stadium is definitely the better way to go

Jesus Christ, the DCFC people are fucking insufferable. Oh, you got a couple thousand people to show up to a high school stadium to watch amateur soccer? That’s great, until you start acting like the legitimate professional team moving in has to work to appease you.

My drunk fat ass can get on DCFC while MLS players range being just good enough to earn a paycheck (guys on the fringes or “loaned” to USL or NASL teams) to being able to play in just about any league in the world (Sebastien Giovinco, Nicolas Lodeiro, etc.). There’s a reason why NPSL isn’t an official tier of the

Screw Dan Gilbert and all the greedy team owners that want to bilk their cities, but if you spend any time in Detroit, that Gratiot jail site is really a weird thing. It’s right near downtown and surrounded by a bunch of normal commercial and residential real estate, not to mention the other sports stadiums. How can

I’m normally against helping fund stadiums, but in this case (at least on the surface) Gilbert is asking for the money that the county is already planning on sinking into the already overbudget jail site, then throwing some of his own cash towards building a nicer facility just a couple miles away.

It’s a good idea to move the jail and courts and give that large corner of downtown up for redevelopment (anything will have more economic benefit than a jail) . And for some reason though Gilbert has a raging hard on for this property that the county should play hardball with him
