There are at least a half-dozen roads around Bakersville, NC, where I often vacation that are better drives than this. I was there in June and drove a freshly resurfaced Diamondback (NC 226A) that was pure, unvarnished joy. Then there's Double Island Road, Crabtree, NC 197... No cops, no tourists, just driving fun.
