They make money off the game having a long tail because it’s a killer app for their online multiplayer.

I find that’s often due to modern lighting effects, particles, physics etc.

“If thin-client streaming catches on and the games are hosted in the cloud, this all becomes a moot point for users anyhow.

New content is cool and all, but it bothers me to see a classic franchise turn into a service game.

If it makes any difference, I heartily recommend them (well the original trilogy, I can’t speak for newer entries). They hold up pretty nicely; they’re among that exalted class of games where merely moving is a joy.

Maybe hit up GOG, they’ve got a lot of games cheap as chips (and cheaper still on sale) that were AAA or B-grade back in the PS2 era.

That was basically my experience with FFX. A later battle against the recurring villain pushed me to give up and YouTube the rest, and I never regretted that decision.

It feels like the “Endless game” thing started in earnest with Oblivion, which kicked off an open-world trend that lasted two console generations. Likewise the rise of modern roguelikes/roguelites came with the indie renaissance and Spelunky.

That’s not a bug, it’s a feature. There’s a reason conservative governments like to gut education.

It had the new dungeons (wall cows y’all) and it wasn’t a NG+, but a separate version of the game. This was on the bonus disc that was bundled with Wind Waker.

iirc, that was already released on one of the Gamecube ports.

Most likely. It was the original SM64 that got ported, after all.

I bought NMS years ago for a tenner. Every few months I think about playing it, only for a big update to be announced, and prompt me to wait a little longer. Maybe this’ll be the one to jump in on :P

I think there were a few holding out for the giant worms specifically.

I’m currently taking a break from Hades. Not because I’m burnt out on it (far from), but because I’ve been bingeing it enough to knacker my wrists -_-

It’s worth giving a go. It’s hard to get a sense just from looking at it, at just how varied the gameplay/gamefeel gets as you equip different weapons and abilities.
