I feel like they are doing this now because of the tie in with the Kingdom Hearts universe and the potential for a KH animated series in the future. SPOILER PROBABLY:
This is a side effect of the sheer hubris of Sora’s dodge mechanic in Kingdom Hearts. You can pretty much dodge the buhjeezus around most enemies in that game, and there are so many similarities between that system and this one that it takes a while to shake it off if you’ve just come out of KH3 like I did.
