>Dune is a commentary on the white savior complex, but in examining that complex, still ends up playing to the same stereotypes it tries to dismantle.

Depiction isn’t condoning. It really doesn’t if you actually read it. It does dismantle them. That’s the point. Depicting elements of that is necessary to comment on

““What Denis had stated to me was there was a lack of female characters in his cast, and he had always been very feminist, pro-women, and wanted to write the role for a woman,” Duncan-Brewster told Vanity Fair. “This human being manages to basically keep the peace amongst many people. Women are very good at that, so

But will it have hats...?

Those Fremen suits and Atreides armor tho!

Except, and lets be clear about this, the book never mentions skin tone or other supposed racial features of any characters. The movies/mini-series have largely hired white actors for the characters, but, and this important, THE BOOKS HAVE NO RACIAL DESCRIPTIONS OR CODING. The books take place 20,000 years from now,

Mostly sounds good. Minor nitpick - Liet Kynes was actually born among the Fremen, from a Fremen mother and a planetologist-from-afar father.

Dune is a commentary on the white savior complex...

Spare parts

Particularly since it looks like Cara Dune is sliding down the ramp going, “WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!”, which by the way, is now officially cannon for how she exits the ship.  Every.  Time.

“That’s why I think that Dune, this book, was written in the 20th century. It was a distant portrait of the reality of the oil and the capitalism and the exploitation—the over exploitation—of Earth. Today, things are just worse. It’s a coming-of-age story, but also a call for action for the youth.”

The character was written as a white man who’d been accepted into Fremen society (in what can only be described as a Dances With Wolves situation), but is now played by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Sharon Duncan-Brewster.

SPOILERS

I would just like to get movie versions of the other books eventually before I die please. Counting the SyFy miniseries this is the third time the first book has been adapted. Dune Messiah / Children of Dune were adapted on SyFy (and I enjoyed them - plus, one of James McAvoy’s early roles!), but I’d like them in

Dune was published in what, 1965? Which means likely conceived and written in the late 50's early 60's. Of course it’s not “timely”.

And no complaints about the changes - but for God’s sake, there are plenty of wonderful novels and stories with plenty of wonderfully diverse characters. Not sure why the industry

“Lady Jessica is one of several female roles that have been expanded for the film adaptation.”

Part of me wants to headcanon this as a sequel to The Rise of Skywalker in which Poe and Zorri quit the Republic to create a spice-running empire that endured for tens of thousands of years.

That’s not Fett’s armor. As to why he has more Mandalorian armor onboard, I don’t know.

this has got an “incredible cross sections” and a “Richard Scarry’s” feel to it at the same time...

His bunk is down on the lower level next to the head (at the end of the small corrider from the weapons storage closet, directly underneath the flight deck). It’s where he regularly puts Baby Yoda when he leaves the ship. It’s not labeled in the diagram specifically, but it’s in the third picture up there where the

Note sure about sleeping, he might just sleep in his seat. As for bathroom there is a multi-species vacuum head on the 3 image. It’s the toilet. Head being the naval term for restroom.
