Right, it’s the use of the Spanish dialogue that adds diversity. Omitting subtitles is basically telling the audience (or at least that part of the audience that doesn’t speak the foreign language at issue) that this is not for them.

Except, of course, that having foreign language dialogue without subtitles is also a well-known technique for alienating/isolating viewers who don’t speak the language. See, e.g., The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (Spanish), Hell in the Pacific (Japanese), or Bridge of Spies (German and Russian). There’s even a section

The Russo brothers went from Community to Winter Soldier, and I didn’t hear them saying that Marvel offered to bring in someone else to direct the action scenes.

I suspect that both theories can be true. There is probably some additional market for women-led movies, but I agree that women-led films are also on average likely to be of higher quality due to studio concerns about the viability of women-led films. Can’t help but notice a major drop off in comments on this show compared to Rebels and Clone Wars. I’m not watching it like I was the others; seems many others are doing the same. Or am I missing something?
