Kind of telling who he used as his examples: Leno, Larry the Cable Guy, himself. Guess he figured he'd invalidate his thesis if he mentioned Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, or Craig Ferguson.

Ah, not only would you fail, you would also get a lecture on how Wikipedia is not a valid source. You may even get the trifecta, and a discussion on the difference between legal, ethical, and medical.
I'm not fond of slippery slope arguments, mostly cuz they're not as common as people assume. :-) And the reason that judges resist putting any specific timeframe on what viability is, and leave it to between a woman and doctor, is that it depends on each pregnancy. Gestational dates aren't terribly accurate, still,…
That assumes the couple contacted the restaurant (which they didn't, from reports coming out), that they could go when there was an opening, etc and so forth. Also, there's an aftermarket for reselling the tickets on Alinea's own Facebook page; they could have easily sold them and rebooked later.
Oooh. *interested*
In other words, "this judge is about to feel the weight of The Internet coming down on him."
USA Today is reporting three children. Two were taken to a local medical center, and one was flown elsewhere (presumably with more serious injuries). It's unclear if one of those children is the shooter.
Agreed.
Today in "someone was lonely and wanted the attention of the Internet,.."
The number of people–including my brother!–who sent me the actual Etsy link with a note that it would be great for my younger cat disturb me. Overlord Zeus is already a fierce badass who survived the streets of Philadelphia for five years. The last thing he needs is battle armor!
Yeah, there are always people willing to take Alinea tickets. Always.
I would be absolutely furious to go to Alinea and have a screaming baby, because exactly this: they're selling a molecular gastronomy experience. And that experience does not include screaming baby ambiance.
We actually don't know what he did for the comfort of the other guests, we just know he posed the question to Twitter (where presumably he's able to quickly get a range of responses from people who dine at Alinea).
What a shitty position for Achatz to be in: he literally cannot win. They kick out a couple with a screaming baby, he's going to get negative publicity. He doesn't, he gets negative publicity because other people had their $400+ dinners ruined by a crying kid. He literally cannot win - which is why this is really a…
Possum is my new go-to fur; I'm trying to find a pair of possum fur-lined leather (preferably kangaroo) gloves for the next winter season. (My chronic pain issue comes with tactile/sensory issues, which means faux fur is actually painful.)
Yeah, as long as the goat was eaten, I don't really have a problem with this.
My pet peeve is that people pretend viability is a legally defined term, when in fact SCOTUS has repeatedly said it's a medical term that is defined on a case-by-case basis between a woman and her doctor.
Er, your understanding of viability is way, way off. You're also conflating legal concepts with medical concepts, and different cultures with one another. That's an "if you handed this in to my medical ethics course, you'd fail and be directed to retake Logic 101" offense.
I think it's problematic to group all people who are anti-abortion into "pro-life" - at least, as pro-life is typically associated with the Religious Right/evangelicals in America. It does a lot of disservice to women like Margaret McBride, who I suspect would consider herself pro-life and anti-abortion - and also…
It is judge-y and closed-minded. A lot of people lose sight of the fact that there are many people who don't like abortion, consider themselves anti-abortion, and work to reduce abortions by increasing access to contraception, improving quality of life, and so on.
