"its been a while since i watched blade, but i don't recall that his blackness was central to his character"

I don't care for the Human Torch but there's a massive difference between Chris Evans Human Torch and Michael B. Jordan's Human Torch and it wasn't just the screenplay.

Nothing to do with the subject but…is there any popular show in the US right now more stupid and cringe-inducing than Lip Sync Battle? I just saw a commercial for that and fuck, it's not even a watchable train wreck

Are you seriously comparing Human Torch with James Bond, in terms of fanbase and history?

I've never said I don't think there shouldn't be a black James Bond, I'm saying that it might not be as easy as "Oh he's the same Bond, just with a different hue"

Well but it is gender-switching to the eyes of the general public.

Oh Jesus Christ what about all of these movies recently? Twilight, Hunger Games, Divergent? Isn't this already happening? Why pick on Harry Potter, a book that was written in 2000 when diversity was not even a word on most people's mouths

Some could argue he's not black enough, some could argue that he should speak or walk in a certain way. I'm not agreeing to that, I'm just playing Devil's advocate, that's the criticism Obama gets by some black people in the States

The name is Eyes…Crazy-Eyes

Star Trek is an ensemble cast film which used to target geeks before geek culture became mainstream, same with superhero movies. That's wildly different from the James Bond's fanbase.

I actually think Ghostbusters might be the "final test" for this gender-switching stuff. If it's a huge hit then we might start seeing more of those…which I think it will, as long as Leslie Jones doesn't screw it (I hate her on SNL)

You're talking out of your ass now, what old franchises? Give me any example of an old franchise like James Bond. There isn't.

It is a stupid argument but it's something to think about

It was awful, a disservice to the character. I agree, I think her history with the X-Men has more than enough material but, from a studio perspective, they would consider it too risky and superhero movies are insanely expensive. I mean, it's not even about race, I also don't see a Rogue movie happening anytime soon

She doesn't have the gravitas to play Storm. Angela Basset would have been the right choice but she's too old now

Yeah right, he's the only one saying that

Yes but we're talking about original characters here for God's sake, you have to understand character and fanbase and that relationship. Change too many aspects of a Star Trek movie and you might be alienating the entire fanbase.

Call me crazy but I don't think a Miles Morales big-budget film would be as big of a hit, at least not now, maybe in the future.

I wrote about this below. Ok so if nothing changed…wouldn't that upset some black people the same way?

We're talking about a billion dollar movie here, profits-wise. Do you think a lesbian or hetero female Bond would bring in a billion dollars in this day and age? And don't mention Tomb Raider, she's a video game character and already very well established before coming into the big screen. Changing James Bond into a
