Why would you think no aspect would change? That would be up to the producers and screenwriters, they could make his race factor into the screenplay

Man I must be very lonely in this but…being a Marvel fan since the 80's I think Scarlet Johansson was horribly miscast as Black Widow, same way I think Halle Berry was awful as Storm.

Let's say Idris Elba is cast as Bond. Does his "blackness" factor into it? Does his background matter? Will he speak with a South London slang? Will he have more "swag"? Will he be a good dancer?

You say that but Storm never had her own comic book until last year and it was awful. I'm just being realistic, Hollywood will not make a US$ 300 million dollar Storm movie until they're certain is gonna be a box office hit

Yeah good point. Still…do we really want to "fix" diversity issues but changing traditional heroes to fit some agendas? Is that the best way to go?

I just think a percentage of minorities absolutely despise white hetero men and perceive them as a symbol of oppression. Which, fair enough, I understand where it comes from. But you shouldn't want to cause change out of spite.

That's exactly what it's happening. He's a symbol of the "old ways"

He was the father Peter never had and there's an obvious difference between the relationship between a father and a son and a mother and a son.

That is a bad example because Adrian Lester's race didn't factor into the character or the story itself. A good example is Sam Wilson as Captain America. If you read the comic, his race, his cultural background, factors pretty much into everything he does. That's what usually pisses people off..it's not really about

I think that would be entirely possible…even his womanising ways or the fact he never settles (Bruce Wayne anyone?) could be factored into it.

Ok fine, Emily Blunt

M is not the selling point here, no one buys a ticket to see M. M could be played by an Asian dwarf for all people care. James Bond shouldn't be gay or female the same way Mary Poppins shouldn't be turned into Mario Poppins.

Exactly

Yeah sure. So ok guys, next Batman film will not be a typical Batman film: it will be Batwoman (not that one), secret identity Brucilla Wayne, played by Angelina Jolie.

Evolving? So…making him gay or female would be "evolving"?

Personally I don't like to see any character being deviated that far from the source. As an example: my favourite X-Man is Storm. If Marvel decided to do a reboot and write Storm as a male instead of female…or as white instead of black or whatever, you get the point…I'd be pissed off. And I'm neither black nor female.

That was a stupid comparison. James Bond was created as a British male hetero super spy…period. Wether he's fighting on the Moon or Mars doesn't really deviate that much from the source. He's still who he is, he's just taking the fight to another level.

So you're saying that a character's sexual orientation or gender is completely unimportant? Really?!

you mean portraying gays as gays?

Man enough of this. I'm gay and no, I don't think Bond should be gay. Why should he? And who would watch that? Wasn't James Bond created to be the ultimate male hetero fantasy? Anything that deviates from that defeats the purpose of the character. He could be black, Asian, blue Avatar, but he shouldn't be gay or
