The Pretenders, a best of.

The next novel idea coming together - not there yet, but it's on its way.

Nice one, well done!

Fuck Theresa May and her utter cravenness in refusing to debate the other party leaders tonight. Mainly because she makes even Gordon Brown look like a cross between Liberace and Evil Knievel, but still, fuck her.

Mark Lanegan & Isobel Campbell - Eyes Of Green
John Prine - Onomatopeia
The Jayhawks - Two Angels
The Long Ryders - Still Get By
Elvis Costello - All Grown Up

You could at least say 'arsehole'.

They were annoying their parents who talked constantly about the war.

I'm British, and I much prefer 'girlfriend' and 'boyfriend' - 'partner' sounds bland and affectless to me, a word that refuses to sing. Business people and criminals have partners. And I don't mind it seeming juvenile, because all that good stuff is supposed to make you feel young and giddy.

I once saw a couple arguing in sign language in the street outside my window - the man was so animated he had to keep stopping to pull his sweater down. I also saw them once laden with bags of shopping, but still somehow bickering with head movements.

I've never minded Wonderful Tonight. Nice guitar part, his voice is appealingly careworn … all round decent track. *shrugs*

Picked up some vinyl yesterday: The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads and Slowhand by Eric Clapton. The epitome of cool and the epitome of uncool, some would say - but that's the kind of broad church I am.

Scrap her, that's what I say. And the whole bloody lot of them.

I saw some of the Queen's visit, and yeah, she didn't seem to quite know where she was for most of it.

Tough crowd.

I'm a big fan of Gram, but reading about him, I wanted to slap him - his rich kid status definitely made him a bit of a gadfly when it came to committing to his art.

Put spaces between the letters and it's fine. Adds some weight, some gravitas even: c u n t.

He will, he will, in the fullness of time.

Tom Holland's dad was a middling stand-up comic in the UK in the 90s. Still is, for all I know.

He might be one of those where I like the idea of his work more than the reality of it.

Better that than Johnny 99.
