What’s the next big Switch exclusive? Nintendo has been knocking it out of the park lately, but I feel like I need just one more “must have” that I can’t get on PC or PS4 before I take the plunge. So what’s next? What’ll be the first big Nintendo smash (pun not intended) of 2018?

This is exactly the problem, and why I fear the increasing siren song of the “whale” consumer over the spending power of the rest of us.

I think that’ll likely be the immediate replacement for lootboxes, at least until a new idea for ongoing monetization takes its place.

Guys, while I appreciate the flood of “it’s already there” responses, I think you’re missing the point. Are we headed towards a future where all of those “special edition/dlc/season pass practices” are in place AND the base-level retail price before any upgrades is more expensive than it is now at $60 USD?

Of course

I hear you and agree that it’s already ridiculous. I’m referring to base-level retail price being raised beyond the $60 US that it is now and has been for a while. Then of course your deluxe editions will be $90 and your gold editions will be $120. Good times.

Say gambling via lootboxes is removed from the gaming industry altogether thanks to controversy and possible legislation. What then? What does the industry replace that monetization model with - since you know they’ll feel like they have to in order to please their shareholders.

Are we headed towards a near-future of

And PC please, since the second one’s getting a PC release. I didn’t get a chance to play the first one.

But...why?

Tim, I think you’ve distilled the essence of my own love/hate relationship with JRPGs into a 23 minute video. Thank you for that. I’ll likely pick this game up one of these days and love/hate every minute of it.

I get where you’re coming from, but I value Jason’s opinion since he and I have similar JRPG sensibilities and grew up as fans of the genre throughout its long, sordid history.

I think you answered your own question. They’re for the mythical uber-consumer who will only play that game and spend all of their disposable income on it. The great white whale of corporate game development.

Yeah, past Dissidias have been neat as a concept, but suffer from that modern JRPG malady that is “too many overlapping mechanics.” Without simple, responsive gameplay I can’t enjoy Dissidia as a fighting game, but it’s nice as a piece of fanservice.

It’s long past time we stopped giving anime a pass over the normalization of pedophilia and sexual assault, cultural differences or no.

I get that BDSM is a common kink, but in light of society’s recent reevaluation of the dangers of power dynamics and potential for abuse, do games and media featuring things like “sex slavery” make anyone else really, really uncomfortable?

Office romance guy, I know how you feel. It sucks to see someone loud and boisterous and annoying to you be charismatic and appealing to others. It also sucks to see behavior that seems outrageous to you (hitting on younger women while married) be accepted or even rewarded by others. It makes you question your own

There’s only two things I can’t stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people’s writing...and Dutchguy000.

As a fellow Horizon fan...you crazy.

I’m one of those weirdos who play fighting games for the story, so cameos like these have always bugged the crap out of me.

The little girl anime trope voice is always an immersion killer for me. My reaction is either: “Why does the character sound like this?” or “Why is there an actual little girl in my quest to save the world?”

If you’ve already hit the level cap in the main game, will you still be able to earn enough skill points to spend on the new skill tree?
