I was a tween when this movie came out and I remember having two major takeaways: 1) confusion over why they tried to make a love triangle out of the Depp-Bloom-Knightley dynamic; and 2) thinking that three-way sword fight was the coolest thing ever.

I knew the broad strokes—I’ve seen Citizen Kane a couple of times and had read some reviews. Maybe one day I’ll go back and finish it, but nothing in the movie grabbed my attention.

Yeah it obviously makes more financial sense for Netflix spend money campaigning for Mank instead of FYOV, but I just wish we lived in a world where it didn’t.

I haven’t been following TSwift’s activism very closely, but does she ever use her platform to fight against sexism that doesn’t directly affect her? In my view, her recent activism (i.e. supporting Democrats, that “You Need to Calm Down” video) have been opportunistic, lending a helping hand far past the point of it

Really wish Netflix would have put their For Your Consideration weight behind this instead of Mank, a movie so dull I gave up an hour in.

How is this punk?

I think the first season of Modern Love was greatly let down by having a *much* stronger first half than its second. The first three episodes are exactly what you’d want from a show like this: cute, sweet romcoms. Then things go downhill. There’s the “I’m in love with my boss who is like my dad!” episode; the “Incel

Yeah Kitsch definitely got his leading man shot, but was in genuinely bad movies where he played flat characters. Not sure whether he or his agent are to blame for that, or if he’s just had rough luck. Last thing I remember him being in was 21 Bridges.

I think Michael B. Jordan probably edges him out a bit, but Plemons’s stardom is definitely surprising, especially when compared to the more conventional looks and talents of his co-stars. Adrianne Palicki and Taylor Kitsch have popped up in things but haven’t had roles that showcase a tenth of the talents they showed

They’re a band that’s inspired by Radiohead but are also both of their own niche and don’t have quite the cultural impact of Radiohead. So no. They aren’t.

The second film delves into this pathos even better; it gives Peter Parker great reasons to quit being Spider-man, but he also has to live with the guilt of knowing his absence as Spider-man costs innocent people of their lives. They are explicitly about one of the great moral lessons; to quietly do the right thing.

This is a long post, but video games played a pretty big part of this year for me, so I wanted to write a longer retrospective. Most of the games I talk about didn’t come out this year, but two—both of which I loved—did.

They explained in the intro that they weren’t including any games that they put into the best of list they made halfway through the year, which included games like TLOU2 and FF7: Remake.

I watch it on my browser or the app on my PlayStation or Android. What do you normally watch things on?

I haven’t had *huge* problems with playback, though it is noticeably worse than Amazon Prime or Netflix. I’d say its catalog is up there with Amazon and Netflix, though.

In her interview with Sam Jones, Plaza told her perspective of that meeting with Mike Schur. She says that he was telling her about his idea for a character—a ditsy, blonde receptionist. Plaza just said she didn’t like that idea because she had seen it before and instead gave the idea for a character who is smart and

Oof, that is a terrible quote with so much to unpack. From “I didn’t care about the racism I’ve heard about in Brazil” to the implication that “represent[ing] Brazil in a positive way” means you can’t have an Afro-Brazilian.

I think it makes sense to delay big budget movies—they often benefit from seeing things in a packed theater and attract the kind of stupid mouthbreathers that will take their masks off in a theater (I made the mistake of seeing Tenet in theaters and quickly realized me and my friend were the only ones there wearing

You never forget your first Mountain Goats song. And mine was this:

Tell that to the billions of dollars they’ve gotten from Guardians of the Galaxy.
