I am 100% down for a Ferrari with a gated transfer case shifter.

That’s what I thought too, but I guess the lines are getting blurred with modern systems. There are AWD cars that send all power to the front wheels until they lose traction, cars like the M5 where you can switch to RWD, cars like the NSX that drive the front with electric and the back with gas....

That’s my understanding too, but you’re right that the terms get swapped a lot. Depends on who you talk to, I guess.

4WD or AWD? I thought 4WD meant you had a transfer case and could switch between driving the rear wheels or all 4. Most cars and crossovers have AWD, which is all wheels all the time.

Holy shit, that blue C2 boat is gorgeous. These are all pretty cool, I had no idea.

Ugh, I Kinja’d myself.

I’ve got a few thoughts here:

If you’re looking and listening like you should be, you’ll probably know he’s coming and stay out of the way. It’s true that there are unavoidable crashes, but most can be prevented with attentive driving.

Fair point, it’s definitely frustrating!

If you want to understand what someone means by their words, maybe you should listen when they explain it to you, multiple times. Maybe you’ll get it if I phrase it like this: I understand why people want a higher seating position, and I think they are wrong.

If you want to undestand what someone means by their words, maybe you should listen when they explain it to you, multiple times. Maybe you’ll get it if I phrase it like this: I understand why people want a higher seating position, and I think they are wrong.

I agree. Please read the whole thread before replying next time.

You: “You said you can’t understand why people would like better visibility.”

Once again, that’s not what I said. I said I don’t understand why people feel safer sitting up high. That’s because, while you have slightly better visibility, you have worse handling and therefore are less maneuverable and less able to dodge crashes.

Yeah, and my point is if you can’t pull up or see, just wait. Don’t let other people cause you to crash.

Temporarily not being able to see in one direction =/= being blind. And please, show me where I said cars have as much or more visibility than trucks / SUVs. My point is that despite the limited visibility, you should still be able to drive safely.

I do live in the mountains, and I have yet to see someone with snow tires get stuck. Also, re-read the comment you just replied to. I admitted that yes, if you live on top of a mountain AWD/4WD does help.

Read my reply to “asmallcat.” Sitting low doesn’t make you blind, and if you are paying attention and don’t go where you can’t see, you’ll be just fine.

If you can’t see, pull up or wait. Or go buy an SUV.

Actually, might not be as bad as you think. Modern cars might not be AS safe as a big truck in a crash, but they are still very safe.
