The majority of users will welcome the death of the window based desktop, because all they do is consume. Modal interfaces are great for that because all you see is what you're supposed to see.

I noticed since I got my Nexus One that monthly data usage has risen by at least 300MB compared to my iPhone 3G. I am going to contribute this to the fact that I can access data using apps quicker and therefore consume and move on.
