It makes me wonder how she felt about her role in The Big Sick. I love Vella and am happy to see her in movies, particularly with a sizable role, but it felt weird knowing she wasn’t actually Pakistani.

Heather being mistaken for Indian (or West Asian) is something Lovell herself has brought up. When she spoke of having ‘those conversations’ with casting directors she seemed to have a tinge of bitterness in her voice.

Please, he’s a humanities professor. He’d be one of those damn hippies. (Ignoring that ‘It belongs in a museum’ would be better served by ‘It belongs with the society it was taken from.’)

I wonder if it’ll be set in the USA for once? Maybe dealing with Native American artifacts? (In a way that’s not offensive.) Or if we’re going into the early 1960s, maybe the JFK assassination?

you call that an apology? He says he “misread the situation.” What about her constantly saying no did he “misread?” With that alone, do you honestly think that was a first time for him? Hell no.

I think its pretty nuanced, either I’d look at it charitably and call it self-examination or less charitably and call it trying to have their cake and eat it too, like trying to seem “woke” to deflect. I can’t speak to individual motivations.

I think that’s been my default emotion since 2016

I watch basically out of habit at this point (I still watch The Simpsons every week, so that falls into the lineup) and I’ve noticed this season’s slightly better than the last few as well. I still wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, but I don’t hate myself for watching it as much recently.

i’ve watched a few episodes of Family Guy this season and they’re not that bad, personally I think this season is better than a lot of the ones in the past few years- I wish AV Club was still reviewing Family Guy tho

Giving out to Nathaniel and White Josh after they’d thrown their baskets of chips on the ground and them immediately apologising and cleanign up was also great.

Threatening to get the security footage of Nathaniel ordering fries.

I thought it was a great film, and I didn’t have any issues with Dixon’s character or arc, but I do think it’s a valid criticism that the film isn’t really interested in its black characters. They’re sort of blandly sympathetic, but we’re never really given their perspective or asked to empathize with them. And I do

I am 100% there for Christian Bale with a lightsaber. Hardly care what the character is, good, evil, whatever, but he would sell the shit out of a lightsaber duel.

Alan Tudyk is a national treasure!

He probably would have poked out his lungs to method-act Forest Whittaker’s character.

Yeah, call other people “sheep”, that’s a good way for your post to be taken seriously.

Luke trained Rey exactly the same way he was trained. Gave her shit, made sure she really wanted it, then helped her. Only this time she seemed more Dark Side prone. I actually though Ren would turn good since Snoke humiliated him and that Rey would turn dark because she couldn’t resist it. That would have been
