Like no time before, the years of the Trump presidency gave us a really good understanding of the degree to which American society was filled with horrible, deeply selfish people. The pandemic upped the stakes and showed just how much worse it really is.

I keep asking myself: “How many of them got a flu shot because the hospital mandated it? How are the COVID-19 vaccines any different?” Then I remember that COVID-19 has been politicized to the extreme and these supposed health care workers refuse to get on board with protecting the people they’re supposed to be helping…

So, this is my hometown, and hearing about how this is tearing apart the families of my friends that still live there is gutting. This kind of divide is affecting families all across the country. There were a lot of great things about growing up in that small town, but this kind of thinking is why I left.
