You know what would stop rampant transfers from happening? Contracts. Like every other professional.

“Look, all I’m saying is, if you run the numbers, 3/5 is a reasonable compromise if you look at purchasing power.”
But if they are really worried about recruits being paid to choose a particular school, why not just put a rule in place that prevents endorsements by people that have donated to the school the recruit chooses within the last 5-10 years?
“Because the car dealership is paying the kid $1 million instead of his actual value of $50,000" - everything is worth what someone will pay for it. If I bought a frozen patty for 50 cents a piece, and sold it as a gourmet burger for $16, if people are paying for it, it’s a $16 burger - not just a 50 cent patty.
Charles Shipan is going to get so many comments forwarded to him....
And, arguably, Rovell’s worst fears are EXACTLY how this works. $1.85M to play Kentucky basketball? $1.1M to join an SEC football team? Yeah, those numbers... seem a little low, honestly.
Oh no! Not sham endorsements!
Rowell is like some Ptolemaic astronomer who’s passionately devoted to a stationary Earth while everybody else is saying hey, Copernicus has a really good and much simpler model where the Earth orbits the sun. But Rowell can’t bear to see his life’s work of humping the stationary earth model be superseded so he’s…
I know these media people are paid to carry water, but there are so many others who just cannot possibly conceive this world where college athletes get paid.
If the horse farm in Kentucky is willing to pay $1.85 million (btw so we’re just making up big numbers that have no basis in reality? Cool, cool) for the college basketball recruit, then that IS his market value. What the fuck is he even talking about?
Is that cheating if it’s under the guise of what was originally intended? Free market system for talent isn’t originally intended.
I’m offended by the implication that there are meaningful Jets games.
True but can you imagine a more Jets way to ruin his career than by rushing him out to face the Dolphins in a meaningless game?
This whole episode can be summed up by how stupid everyone in professional football is. I remember reading about the diagnosis and all the talking heads, coaches, etc assumed he’d be out a few weeks. Nope, your spleen gets enlarged and is prone to rupturing. Having had mono at the appropriate age I was not allowed to…
Word on the street is his spleen killed a man in Reno, just to see him die.
It’s a ceremonial rank only. He can’t marry people.
It really depends on how fast they can mobilize the Rascal Brigades:
Mark Emmert looks like a garden gnome who was granted his one wish of becoming a Republican televangelist.
my man only knows one way to play: FULL THROTTLE
After the game, Odell Beckham Jr. told reporters that he was more concerned with Humphrey’s erection during the play, as well as his own.
