The Drapers are just popping up everywhere this week, aren't they?
The Drapers are just popping up everywhere this week, aren't they?
SPOILERS BUT
I think it's just content with being a good network sitcom and nothing more. Which is fine, it makes me laugh a lot, but it's not the revelation some were hoping it would be.
I really like B99 but I can't get over how clunky the dialogue is sometimes. They are bad offenders of the "recap the events of the last act after the commercial break" schtick.
Generally I think Kimmy is pretty far from Liz Lemon, but when she called someone a "wang" in a later episode, I definitely got flashbacks.
On one hand…yeah, Dong's a somewhat stereotypical character, but on the other hand, he's an Asian character who the show managed to flesh out to feel like a real person. How many other Asian actors are getting work of that level on TV? Is problematic representation better or worse than no representation at all?
30 Rock definitely had heart, but UKS is more deliberately trying to incorporate it into its DNA in an episode-by-episode basis.
"That's how much the Olsen quadruplets paid me to keep quiet."
Only 5 episodes in but so far…
Okay, episodes 4 and 5 were fantastic. I'm totally on board now.
I've seen a sizable amount of backlash and it's kind of making me bummed to even finish the season because that's how I operate I guess. (For the record I really enjoyed the three I've watched, although #3 was pretty scattered.)
God, Netflix shows are weird. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has been out for not even 24 hours and I feel like public opinion has already gone from hesitation, to love, to backlash, to backlash to backlash, to settling in positively.
I read in an interview that Fey and Carlock were the ones who were pushing for NBC to find it another home because they knew if it had aired on NBC "it would've gotten a 0.6 and died." They're very smart people.
Well, as we've seen, Ilana's shellfish allergy doesn't stop her from eating shellfish.
Mine would be: 3 > 2 > 4 > 7 > 5 > 6 > 1
That was super fucking annoying. Between that and the "YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHO'S POPPING UP ON THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA THIS WEEK" ad, I was not all that sad to be done with NBC after this episode.
There are lots of sitcoms whose finales were basically normal episodes, although it seems like it's gotten pretty rare. I think ELR's finale was fairly normal, although wasn't there a death scare?
I definitely get that (and I've had problems with the show overloading sweetness before, particularly in Seasons 5 & 6). I guess personally I was just willing to go for it though since it was the series finale and that was what I expected.
2 and 3 are the best seasons, and some of the best TV seasons ever. 4 and 7 are also great, if not quite at that (ridiculously high) level. 5 and 6 are flawed but with plenty of good moments. We don't talk about 1.
