As opposed to the completely predictable surprise, I suppose? Who knows, man. Since late 2016, up is down and right is left. Apparently words no longer mean what we think they mean.

Please let it be BJ’s, please let it be BJ’s.
Hiddles’ dignity is in that box.
Let me say this. As a father with a daughter I felt the exact same way as you did. Chills, tears, human emotions. My daughter had all but given up on a Lady Doctor but when I surprised her today with the trailer, the pure joy in her eyes made my day.
44 here, wife’s 47, chills for both of us. Daughter who watches off and on is also psyched.
I cannot but imagine what this will mean to young women.
I don’t even care much about Dr. Who and I teared up, because I think of all the younger girls who watch it who will be able to relate as someone other than the “companion.” I remember being a girl and my choices in pretending to be characters were either Disney Princesses or a dude, which I was then discouraged from…
I’m 37 and had the same reaction, tears included. I’d previously been married to the notion of Hayley Atwell in the role, but was also fully braced for the inevitable regular ol’ white dude. Most of the frontrunners were also names I didn’t recognize, so I was quite prepared to shrug at the reveal.
I had pure, out and out chills watching the clip earlier without knowing who it was. Then I saw Jodie and burst in to tears. Sylvester McCoy is MY Doctor, but he may now have competition.
As a woman who’s the same age as Jodie, getting to see this happen is pretty incredible.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
I watched the clip and when she was revealed I felt the tears come down - they were tears of pure unbridled happiness that I didn’t expect but readily welcome as another glass ceiling is shattered.
Holy Shit, they did it, they really did it!!
I prefer the term Einstein-Rosen bridge, but OK, sure.
She’s already incredible.
Good. They’re little more than Old Boys Networks that bully and harass under the name of “Brotherhood”.
They’re working on it. There are anti-trust issues; there’s some concern that they’d be cornering the market on racism.
