I missed having Dowd’s Cannes coverage this year.

I randomly saw that online, and it’s truly bonkers. Cryptocurrency is great because it’s all about diversity or something. At one point he even says, “Do your own research.”

Good - fuck making animal abusing scumbag assholes richer.

I hope you mimed piano playing and crying while you were writing that.

I still don’t really get what the geo(-galacto?-)political situation between the New Republic and First Order was supposed to be, pre-TFA. The Republic controlled some/most of the galaxy, but there was an unaffiliated area that the Order was taking over and there was a small insurgency fighting them there? I think?

There are people who have to walk miles to school, yet some people walk for sport. There are people who have to dive pearls for a living, yet some dive for sport. There are people who don’t even have a TV or money to go to a sports game, yet some people play sports for living.

You know, if you were really serious about attracting young people, I’d think surrounding the city with the heads of NIMBY Boomers and self-styled property investors on pikes would be real effective tactic.

I really wanted to like this show, but it became harder and harder to make it through each episode and each new episode sat longer and longer in my queue until I just abandoned it without finishing. Great concept though.

I didn’t read the book, but the show seemed to work far better in standalone episodes than as a continuous narrative. The larger mythos never seemed terribly coherent, nor all that necessary.

who sold DC Comics to DJ Khaled?

I haven’t watched the Ruffin video, but if this summary is like that, its close to (maybe already has) falling into the trap that Fox News and conservative operatives want to lay out.

This comes from your linked article on CRT:

I agree with your Catching Fire critique. Even when reading the books I thought to myself that it was just Hunger Games redux, and I wondered why was I reading the same thing again. Pretty much soured me on the third book which I know I read but didn’t really care for.

Thank you for vindicating my failure to see any of the sequels.

I mean, when the alternatives are Fox News and doing your own “research” on social media, enforcing an anodyne baseline of reality/normalcy is arguably a public service.

I’m always going to defend Man of Steel as my favourite Superman film. Probably my favourite of the 2013 blockbusters and one which I’ve revisited several times. It still holds up.

There's a reason this model works better with gym memberships ...

I’m going to dissect this bullshit one bit at a time:

It’s a good apology. Mine would probably sound like:
