They seem to be going awfully hard at HFPA compared to how hard they go at... things that actually matter... like TV networks and movie studios.

The aave debate was weird to me because they kept complaining that the sketch was using the language “wrong” as if it was supposed to be “authentic” in the sketch rather than a comical exaggeration.

Let me let you in on a little secret: this was a pretty average episode of SNL, they kind of all suck.

The fact that the mirror are equating beauty with “fairness” of skin tone is a whole other can of worms.

I doubt anyone was seriously considering boycotting.  All these “the cast of SNL are revolting” takes seem to be based entirely on two kind of sarcastic tweets.

Iceland has become something of a vacation destination in the last ten years or so, so a lot of comedy writers are coming back from there feeling the need to write it into shows like this.

Also in a group of 87 people 10% of the vote is something like 8 or 9 people who for all we know may have been protesting the vote for the reforms not being sweeping enough or something.

The “vaccine patents” controversy is a total red herring.  Even with all the patent information third parties are unlikely to be able to fully replicate the existing vaccines without the active cooperation of Pfizer, Moderna, J&J, etc and just waiving the patents would most likely discourage rather than encourage that…
