Correct, the issue is a contract Fox had with HBO.  The movies are required to have theatrical releases (so that round of publicity gives them legitimacy), then they get played on HBO for a certain period, and then the rights return to Disney to do as they please with them.

I’m in kind of a “guilty pleasure” place with Suicide Squad.  It’s undeniable crap, but it’s crap in a very specific way that I find amusing.  It’s a movie that my inner fourteen year old thinks is very cool.
