The thing is, The United States is a nation of immigrants whether it wants to admit it or not and that means it has a long (if extremely troubled) history of some degree of pluralism to learn from and most arguments in favor of stuff like Burka bans tend to fall flat since no one race or ethnicity really is really on

What were the Tweets? Not sure if I’m using instagram right but I’m just seeing a title card on that “viral instagram post.

I think being heir to the throne in that country rots people’s minds. It’s only lasted as long as it has because the abdication put the relatively humble George VI on the throne and then died early enough that Elizabeth hadn’t herself inherited this mind rot enough before it was too late.  Damn near everyone else in

Think of “The Firm” as the Corleone “Family.” Vito is the head of the “family” and there is an actual hereditary family at the center, but “the family” is a bigger thing with various enforcers and consiglieres who are in many ways just as important to “the family” than the actual family and when Vito is old and sick

That’s... actually younger than I would have thought.

The last couple of years I’ve come to learn that large swaths of Asia have VERY strong opinions about drugs and drug dealers that make D.A.R.E. seem positively tolerant.

Compared to peasants in the rice fields and workers in Foxcom factories, yeah, they usually do.

The Seuss estate probably could have spared us this news cycle by just quietly pulling the books without releasing a press release to make sure everyone knew how virtuous they were being and giving Fox News an opportunity to drone on about cancel culture.

There is a book out there called “Is the Cat in the Hat Black” which argues that the character was built on elements of blackface minstralsy. It also argues against pulling or bowdlerizing problematic books in favor of using them as learning tools about the issues of the past when paired with more authentic

“Chinaman” is considered a slur regardless of the rest of it.

But people do make those jokes about Leonardo DiCaprio, that’s probably why you thought to bring him up.

Obviously Reed Hastings watches every second of every show to ensure they all have the same stance about pop stars, so it’s odd that he would allow these two things to co-exist on this tiny platform.

Make sense to me, if you have a whole army of crazy people dead-set on pressuring studios to keep you employed the obvious move is to give them a new cause: #ReleaseTheSnyderSequel

The Academy isn’t exactly known for nominating bold avant garde work in any of the other categories either. One could hardly imagine something like, say, I’m Thinking of Ending Things being nominated for Best Picture this year for example.

No, it qualified, it just didn’t get nominated. It is conceivable that some voters opted not to vote for it for that reason, but there was no rule barring its entry.

Indeed, a story can be interesting, important, and valid even if the storyteller is kind of a hypocrite. Like, there was clearly some major sexual harassment issues going on at NBC and CBS, that doesn’t mean they should have just refused to continue reporting on Cosby, Weinstein, etc. on principle.

The issue isn’t the equipment, the issues is that football and basketball have a clear pipeline via public schools that baseball and hockey kind of don’t. Baseball exists on a high school and college level, but no one cares about it, it’s not enticing and universities aren’t giving out scholarships to baseball players

Bad news, the Trump lackey who did the intentional dismantling is still in power.  Can’t just be fired by a new president for astonishingly stupid reasons.

Unlike Disney, who have enough money to horde most of their stuff, Warner still needs/wants to make money off of various lucrative deals with cable networks and the like and will do that with a bunch of their higher profile stuff like the DC movies.

On one hand I think Hillary was massively misrepresented and treated unfairly by wide swaths of society and deserves some sort of public redemption. On the other hand her polarizing features make her not terribly helpful as a public feature and as a result think the best way she can serve her country is by retiring
