So weird how different the rules for cancellation work depending on your audience. Like, Chris Brown can beat a woman to a pulp and have multiple rape accusations and still have a pretty active music career while the host of this podcast has to step down immediately because a co-worker thought he wasn’t sufficiently

    From The Empire Strikes Back

There actually was a deleted scene from Phantom where Anakin got into a fight with local kid (same species as Greedo) and Qui-gon gives him a lecture about turning the other cheek.  They were probably right to cut it because the acting was even worse than the rest of the movie, but it was meant to give hints of the

Not sure this show gets the credit it deserves for being bonkers.

If by “garbage fire” you mean awesome year when we saw all sorts of movies for free and the only people hurt in the end were billionaire investors who could afford the loss and which sparked other chains to start similar programs that are still ongoing and which would continue to let me see all sorts of free movies if

Wouldn’t the regular police have jurisdiction over murders committed off of military bases regardless of if the enlistment status of the victim?  Especially if it’s just the spouse of a navy person?

Why are there so many navy related crimes happening in all these cities?

The Marvin Gaye estate seems to be remarkably petty. First they somehow manage to gain millions through a highly questionable legal verdict, and instead of just quitting while they’re ahead they do this?

So... Joker for ten year olds?

The whole point of the book, and the whole point of the film, was to capitalize on pre-existing bigotry in society. The movie won so many awards because of that bigotry. They knew exactly what they were tapping into.”

You will find very few people denying that Birth of a Nation is racist. It’s not exactly a movie that anyone watches in 2021 with a big bowl of popcorn looking to be rapt with uncomplicated entertainment, it would take a very dense person not to recognize it’s many, many, many problematic aspects.

I don’t know about that, in my experience the lack of entertainment options in years past meant that people were far more likely to watch older shows via syndication than they are to watch older shows now via streaming.  In the 90s there basically wasn’t anything to watch a 5:00 on a Wednesday aside from whatever

I mean, shit, enough has changed in the last five years to put a lie to the notion that not much changes in thirty years.

That was 30 years ago. Many of the people complaining about it were not born at the time.  In 1991 the Selma Freedom Marches were more “recent” than 1991 is today.

    .

Silence of the Lambs the book has a whole chapter (that kind of reads like a disclaimer) that’s a long conversation between an FBI agent trying to get files on trans patients to track down Buffallo Bill and a doctor where the doctor gives a speech how trans people aren’t normally violent and Gumb shouldn’t be

Can someone explain this “we live in a society” meme to me?  Do we not live in a society?

It’s almost like the dude hired to host a show where people pretend to “date” a harem of women in order to propose marriage to someone that more than likely won’t happen isn’t on the cutting edge of racial discourse. Shocking. Guess they’ll need to hire Ibram X. Kendi to host next season.

Specifically, we’re thinking of the 1965 film version”

Yeesh... guess Disney was definitively correct to cut ties.  Good luck making movies with Kevin Sorbo and Kirk Cameron the rest of your life Gina.
