If classic JRPG mechanics with some minor tweaks can be made to appeal to people who don’t like JRPG games, that’s actually an argument deeply in FAVOR of how much JRPG mechanics still appeal to all types of gamers.

I’m mostly a fan of hte FFI - X games as well, but FF7-R was a blast. It mixed the old ATB style with real time action RPG elements really well (on the other hand I hated combat in FFXII, XV unlike many other people).
