I’d say the exact opposite. I’ve read pretty extensively about the Eastern Front during WW2 and Soviet history, and most Soviet historians are in agreement that Stalin’s policies were catastrophic for the Soviet Union, and the Soviets won DESPITE Stalin, not because of Stalin.

To be fair, “would you kill baby Stalin” is a pretty legitimate question, given he’s responsible for killing more people in the Great Purge than Hitler killed in the Holocaust.
