Pretty much. My reaction as a Japanese immigrant was does this guy bitch and moan this loudly any time a new Star Wars or Spiderman game comes out?

Idk, that’s my take as a Japanese person (fwiw, I’m a Japanese guy that immigrated to the US a few decades ago).
Partially sexist, partially really different cultural atittudes about sex owing to not being a judeo-christian country. Japan’s way more sexist than the US, at times shockingly so, so that’s certainly a part of it.
There’s a big Japanese cultural element owing to how Shinto affects the way Japanese people think about inanimate objects.
There’s definitely some of that, but there’s a pretty big religious/cultural element here as well. Hear me out.
Totally agree with this. Miyazaki is a great artist, but he sounds like a pretty bad leader. In fim making, the former can certainly supercede the latter to create a fine work—but the end product doesn’t prove the leadership skills of the artist.
Ive seen every one of those films, Cordelle Hull is a character in none of them, for example (if, for example, we look to the negotiations).
Totally disagree. For one, there are many historical theories about why the Pearl Harbor attack was successful. The movie embraces a semi-conspiracy theory that the FDR White House intentionally ignored warning signs, but you could focus on other theories and causes (racism, etc)
Movies that focus on singular events, or stuff that’s not necessary the mud and blood of the battefield have always been part of the tradition of war movies though. Tora Tora Tora! (1970) being an older example.
Darkest Hour (2017) was quite good and unique, certainly having something different to say. A war movie that’s mostly about politics, and Churchill as a politician, not some inspirational cutscene (not to mention the entire movie only covers like 10 days).
While on the topic of women pirates, it’s worth mentioning that the most successful pirate in history was a 19th century Chinese woman by the name of Ching Shih.
You can even let the fire go over the waterline, it will just burn the portions above the waterline, right down TO the waterline.
This is all kinds of wrong.
Eequally important: not malicious =/= not racist.
Most people think of him as thank you come again guy grocery store clerk. Not any of the things you mentioned. And not unfairly.
I mean yeah, but say Platoon has something very different to say about war than say Grave of the Fireflies. You can say “war is shitty” in a lot of different meaningful ways.
Ive been a Kotaku reader and commenter for over a decade. I dont buy this headline is out of character.
Eh, if you want staid headlines and straight journalism, go to the New York Times. Most people come to GMG sites for the humour and wit of the writers and then flippant headlines are part of that.
I’m an attorney that handles a lot of cases with companies the size of Boeing, and I can attest, it’s not uncommon.
I was a 25 year old kid with NO insurance when I suffered chest pains and shortness in the middle of the night. My wife drove me to the ER, and they hooked me up to an EKG immediately, despite the ER being quite busy.
