Drive-by noise regulations and insulation of the passenger compartment from engine noise play a role there, but part of it is making the underhood area look simple in a dealer showroom. If most buyers saw the complication under the hood of modern turbocharged & direct injected cars they’d just keep their old one.

The handbrake shoes on these are tiny and cable actuated without much leverage, running inside drums in the rear rotors. Damn right. My dad’s old 300ci single cab ‘82 F150 was a tank, I loved that truck. All that torque made it great for a dumbass responsible 16 year old to hoon drive slowly to school.

Sometimes the scope doesn’t change, and isn’t even unreasonable, but life gets in the way.
