Of course it’s a necessary evil, but for Alfa Romeo in particular it’s a bummer.

Not at all, the 4C seems incredible. But because we haven’t had new Alfa Romeos in the US (where this is clearly aimed) for 20 years, and we’re a culture of shortsighted morons who only care about shiny things, most who buy these will not give a shit about Alfa’s history, and that’s a shame. A necessary vehicle, but

I see Philip found you, welcome! Old Matchboxes of that era are some of my favorites, looking forward to seeing them.

To me, true Alfas have never been about brute force, they’ve been about balance. They’ve built some shitboxes, to be sure, but they’re also the company that decided an otherwise staid 80's family sedan should have a rear transaxle and one of the greatest V6s ever made, that won the 1935 German Grand Prix with an

First world problems, right? I have 20 cases or so, and no display space!

The solution to rampant consumerism, maybe.

I have immense love for Alfa, and for stablemate Lancia, which was ruined by Fiat badge engineering. I don’t want that to happen.

Beg to differ on the dilution, the Stelvio just seals the deal.

Fair enough, but they looked like that because they didn’t know any better, which is why that form is interchangeable with 50 other brands.

As crossover things go, it doesn’t seem bad, but it’s another egg with an angry face, wearing a prestigious badge. I’ve driven a bunch of the German sporty SUVs, and they’re ok for what they are, but none do anything really well.

Not exactly a known car in the US, Alfa’s brand here remains untainted ;) Besides, now that I know about it, that makes maybe two people here that do, the other being Jonee. I should have said “died a little.”

Maybe a little with the Cherry, I just learned about that car earlier this week, actually. The trucks and vans? They have a charm all their own. The Stelvio is important, but since we haven’t had Alfa in 20 years here, its likely buyers won’t get the mystique. I hope it succeeds, but it bums me out that people

I salute you. I just want to daily a GTV-6, that’s all.

You’re entitled to that opinion, but I own a Lancia and regard the Delta Integrale as an all-time hot hatch, with a direct lineage to the last gasp of Lancia’s competition history before Fiat finally did them in. The Stelvio may be a lovely thing in and of itself, but I don’t think it warrants that kind of comparison.

I agree with that, hence my opening statement. But brand dilution is a thing.

I understand the financial necessity that this exist, but you know that whole “every gearhead needs to own an Alfa” thing? It just died.

Patrick’s a great dude, I’ve got a couple cars from him, I’m sure there will be many more. Hard to find personal service like that.

Was is you that showed that on LALD? Someone mentioned that awhile back, great idea.

Didn’t know about those, great tip, thanks!
