I think we’ll see less of this as time goes on. The ‘80s were a long time ago, and the nostalgia window moves relentlessly onwards. I wouldn’t hold out hope for that Buckaroo Banzai Against The World Crime League to come out anytime soon, or ever.

I enjoyed Tron Legacy, but it’s the kind of movie that gets made when ‘80s kids who taped a lot of stuff off cable become movie execs. They loved Tron growing up, along with Carpenter’s Thing and Blade Runner. That’s the only reason those movies, which were not at all successful when they came out, all got sequels 30+…
