You know, the more recent Simpsons episodes get a lot of flak, but that's probably because there was a period of time — probably 2001 - 2006ish — when the writing was really weak. There was still some good stuff in there, i swear, but it was definitely sagging in the middle.

inside jokes
Unfortunately, I think this character is one of those jokes that is mostly funny to people "in the industry." It's funny if you've worked with Tom Cruise, or a guy like Les Grossman. For everyone that's not a highly-paid actor, it registers as merely a "heh," or even a "meh."
