The pilots f’d with it. They had a jam condition and could have landed with difficulty but decided to do some percussive maintenance to break it loose. They succeeded and it came completely lose. It’s a general caution to not attempt repairs of failures with unknown causes from the cockpit while in the air.

They also contributed to the crash by monkeying with the controls. The right answer was “head to the absolute nearest airport”, touch everything as little as possible.

This is my point. Sure Boeing fucked up but all these airlines are loving that Boeing is getting the shaft when they deserve plenty of blame too.

Why did cost cutting against the wishes of engineers become a normalized and acceptable way of increasing profits at engineering companies?

Dear (not) Alaska Airlines, “pressurization alert twice doesn’t trigger a response, only three times” doesn’t mean everything is fine. It means YOUR PROCEDURES ARE CRAP.

It’s very disturbing that Alaska Airlines considered not flying over the ocean until they had a more convenient time to work on the plane a good enough solution.

Why did cost cutting against the wishes of engineers become a normalized and acceptable way of increasing profits at engineering companies? Why do engineering companies not care about meeting the needs of the customer as a means to increasing their profits?

Have you seen the Air Disasters ep that goes over Alaska Airlines Flight 261?

It’s possible the vehicle was damaged going into the pond - bent frame, bent latch, who knows.

In this case and point, no, not when it comes to Boeing and the whistle blower mysteriously unaliving themselves.

Ya, and in our late-stage capitalism hell hole, this guy had to go to work one month after having twins.

If only there were technology that could monitor if they fall asleep behind the wheel..

not surprising but new argument for mandatory paternal leave

Pour one out. Final nail in zombie Deadspin coffin. Or is that a second burial? Dug up the grave just to cremate? How’s morale?

I know this will get a lot of nasty comments but:

And 99% of the time this thing is driving it will consume way less resources than any other car. Only when you hit the track will you maybe have a chance to consume normal fossil fuel levels of energy. But, even then it will probably consume a lot less than an equivalent gas car around the track. So, really, it always

Let’s just ignore the fact that we have been decimating the land and oceans by pumping oil for the last 130 years. Every ounce of diesel and gasoline needs to be drilled, pumped, refined, transported and used one time and turned into CO2 immediately after the energy is extracted in an ICE.

Because airbus has never ever had any issues or incidents with any of their aircraft…

ROFL - if you believe that you are a complete and utter moron.

It’s almost like letting megacorps self regulate is a bad idea...
