Old defenders are glorified farm equipment that can only be good after dumping $200k worth of de-shitboxing egineering into them and even then they don’t match the G-Wagen, Land Cruiser or even a new Bronco in terms of drivability and build quality. I genuinely don’t understand why Americans pay 6 figures for them

Not with the extra coolers to make up for the turbo

GMs biggest mistake was letting the Atlas 4200 die instead of retiring the tired old Vortec 4.3.

Straight sixes are easier to design and manufacture using existing 4 cylinder tech. There’s also the simplicity and cost saving that comes with only having to make one head, one exhaust manifold and having less belts/chains and tensioners for timing.

They’ve moved on to timing chains but I’d still worry about things like tensioners, water pumps and cam gears being engine out/cab off jobs.

Straight 6s are better balanced, easier/cheaper to design and manufacture, have better packaging in light duty rwd based vehicles, easier to work on, can be used for a modular 4 cylinder architecture, and of course sound better.

Its a stylized fwd Passat for near Audi A5 money. Of course it's a flop in the face of alternatives like the Sonata 2.0t and Accord.

Getting rid of a car thats paid off amd maintained to buy an expensive EV that you’ll inevitably have to have towed cause you ran out of juice on a road trip and the only charger in a 30 mile radius is broken.

I noticed that too. I was looking for E36 and E46 coupes and gave up cause I'm not taking out a 15k loan on a 20 to 30 year old BMW that's been through 7 owners and 200k or more kms.

I had a chance at an 85' AE86 Levin for $2000 CAD back in 2018. I had the cash but I figured I’d save my money and not take a plunge into those waters.

One could make a case for a 3-Series (E30/36/46) but then its a dice roll as far as durability is concerned.

Don’t know where you’ve been but 90s and early 2000s Hondas have always been solid alternatives to Miatas and E30 BMWs.

Its a civic si thats meant to trade blows with top spec GTis and lower spec luxury cars like the A-Class and A3.

CVT option with 200 hp motor, adaptive dampers, ambient lighting and HUD, larger infotainment w/16 speaker sound system, liftback, different styling and colour options etc.

This is exactly why government worker in Ontario have blocker trucks behind them and often block off a lane to make space for workers.

Just get a VTEC Honda from any period between 1991 and 2014 and be happy

Houndstooth, tartan and city bus cloth should be options on every car.

Dude. Chill.

Anyone else feel like this is a copy and paste of the VW XL-1?

Ok, so here’s what we’re gonna do. I’m gonna ask you why you give a damn and how this affects you, and you’re going to sit there and either smash your keys angrily about some non-sense that doesn’t actually matter or stop responding because you grew up and moved on from this contrarian hill you are choosing to die on
