My friend’s coffee shop is popular with the college kids; he put up a sign that says “the wifi is free but intermittent”, and when he wants people to leave, he turns off the wi-fi, does the dishes.

Yes, it is a horrible quiz because it misses the entire point of why the “rich” are rich. They have wealth, they own things of value that create more wealth over time. They own property that they rent, those gaining income from the rent they are paid as well as the increase in value of the property.
Feels like they could have just asked one question. “Do you work because you have to?” Yes - You’re not rich, No- You’re rich.
I think a lot of people would be better off renting than owning a home. Maybe because I live where I live, but it is insanely expensive to buy a home within an hour and a half commute to the office. And if you’re pouring every penny in to paying off that house, where all your expenses are that house, what if the…
Economy is about to tank hard soon regardless. one factor is the astronomical cost to own a home in 3/4 of the country.
There’s nothing wrong with getting a loan for a reasonably priced vehicle either if its in your budget. I would much rather spend 15k on a two or three year old car with much better safety features and mileage, than taking a risk on a 10+ old car to save money, not to mention having to either have all that money up…
But if you need to finance that $5k car, you have to be ready for the potential 10% interest that comes with it.
By the time I was 6 years of good credit after a reasonably bad fail in my teen years, my credit score was like 570. On year 7, my credit score, because really - every single decision since that bad one, had been excellent, rocketed to over 700.
Calculating your net worth by including short term trends in your investment portfolio is not ideal. There’s no point in saying that your net worth increased by $27k when part of that gain is from the stock market because it can easily go down by a significant amount, even if you are properly diversified (see 2008).
I recently traveled to Maui and at my hotel, found myself caught in one of these discussions with a staunch Trump supporter. I’m late twenties, he’s like 60 or 70, and he’s generally rude and condescending, asking stuff like:
Old guy: “So young guy, tell me, do you know the difference between Republicans and Democrats?”
…
I was almost reduced to tears on several occasions. I would try and work on something that needed my full attention, and then the same Taylor Swift song that was played a half hour ago would fire right back on up.
Damn that sounds terrible. That’s an environment where the possibility of someone shanking another person is pretty damn high.
Whenever this topic comes up I always like to point out how it’s so common that the people that decide the company should have open offices have a little room all to themselves with a door that closes. Anyone who pushes for an open office concept should be required to work in one themselves.
Agreed, dude is venting. He’s got a tough situation at home and doesn’t have the time and/or friend support, so he’s using the only outlet he’s got left, at work. I’m surrounded by parents of young kids at work, so I’m exposed to it daily. When we all eat together I can just whip out my phone and phase out, but when…
I cant wait for the offroad world to start playing with electric motors to power their rock crawlers. Think a 500:1 reduction gear on an electric motor....crawling at 0.05mph over anything....silently.
It’s still good advice. It’s not “out of touch.”
First story and we have a winner. No others need apply...
Department head will neither do her work nor delegate it so it can actually get done. I’ve literally said “this, this, and that - I can do these things so you have more time for the other things.” She thanks me, says she’ll get back to me, then never does. Meanwhile, our budget is a fiasco because basic stuff isn’t…
Driving back to my hotel in Laval after working as a photographer at 24hrs of Le Mans, ended up having to swerve to avoid two horses humping in the middle of the road.
Saw a Bronco II start to slde on a snowy highway, hit the snowbank on the right side, did a perfect barrel roll, land on its wheels in about 3 feet of snow. Two guys jump out, apperently unscathed.
