Congratulations, they discovered the concept of copyright...but without the centuries of infrastructure to support and enforce them.

Tangential but: I thought “say less” =/= “nuff said”
I’m sorry but that’s not true.
These people aren’t smart enough to do something like this on purpose.
If we can sterilize migrant women at the border we should be able to do this.
No argument there, and I think we’re saying the same thing, just quibbling on the wording.
Every time I see him in some suit like that I always wonder how much, if any, of Jeff Goldblum’s whole schtick is manufactured to lean into public perception of him as this weird dude and how much is him just being like that.
There’s a lot of focus on the background check here, but that’s not really the problem, because background checks are just another extension of the carceral state that prevent reintegration and increase recidivism. The problem is that management was warned about his behavior and then did absolutely nothing.
Apart from the shoddy effects...just came to say you will absolutely find downpours like this in major cities. Houston says hi.
Neither could Tina Turner.
Its biggest problem is its self importance. It has a voiceover (Giamatti) that keeps telling you things are deep and meaningful and interconnected and then they certainly are not. And this was near the height of those other awful “everything is connected” movies.
SPOILERS: In the post-credits scene, they flash-forward to the kid as an adult in a creepy mask with a siren blaring in the background, and you realise the whole thing has been a prequel to the Purge movies.
I almost did this last week after I got a terrible email from a colleague (after I was doing them a favour) and was writing a response, but it started with “Just to clarify...”
Oof, yeah. Indie developers really need to remember that they should never, ever make public comments when they’re feeling upset or stressed (if they’re not the ones tasked with community management, no public comments on their own ever, period), but someone should post a little something on a regular basis as proof…
Yes, we call that kind of privileged person “legitimately privileged”.
Aye, you really do need to consider kickstarter backers to be your investors, not your customers. If one of the ways you spend that Kickstarter money is hiring a community manager whose entire job is keeping people appraised of the progress of the project, then do that.
That “friendly advice” at the end of the update is the kind of thing that many of us write, savor for a long moment full of angry fantasies, then delete because thrashing around like that in public is fucking embarrassing, whether or not it makes problems down the line. Still, the post could be a lot worse.
I feel bad for them. I know the stress of game dev and get the frustration of trying to get shit done while being interrupted. But they should update once in a while. People take the money and run. People give up. I imagine most of the backers would’ve been happy with just some check-ins.
It happens all the time. Try watching a legal copy of the original Beavis and Butthead with the actual commentary of them watching videos. Or why shows like Freak and Geeks or the Wonder Years take forever to get to streaming platforms since they have huge soundtracks that need to get cleared.
But do the kids continue to constantly do the most boneheaded thing possible to move the plot forward? S1 one felt like everything was rooted in plot, not character.
