Again I see this as a problem with the whole site and commenters relationship with films: they are either the best or a horrible problematic thing and usually the change from one to the other is a traumatic incident that makes it to a very life changing wake up call.

there is more and more a huge disconnection in this show between what the background is (the system is evil) and what it is telling (stories with Big Bad Guys that are the specific and very localised target of The Other Guys). All the script plotting points seem very serious to be so trite, and moreover the ads on

With Maya Rudolph it’s either adore every little thing she does or be irritated by any appearance of her, right?

Jesus Christ you are toxic, and you probably don’t even care about assault, trolling and flaming is your end goal.

oh this season is a mess I cannot stop watching. Between the really fucked up notion of non vanilla sex as a perversity that pops up again and again and so many subplots that are just a test for the actors, some of them who do marvels (the one for Frenchie) and some who really don’t know what to do (the Homelander’s

Moreover, when Sliding Doors was released it felt to many people like a lazy remake of “La vida en un hilo”

I still think it was a letdown after Winter Sleepers

I cannot understand how a film critic can put Ratatoille so low. It is one of the best films about understanding art and why art critics are important and how they live the art, and moreover, it is done in the boundaries of a film that can be watched by children.

Dune is mainly a Dino de Laurentiis visual fantasy, with the same baroque and kitsch ideas behind Flash Gordon or Barbarella, and it was going to be that from the beginning. How Lynch thought, for a moment, that he could survive that with creative control was... something he had a lot to learn from.

I would tell them: go ahead, try remaking it. Let’s see how it develops. If they are brave enough to have the idea of remaking such a weird one with such a history in its production, go full in, let’s see what they’ve got.

no, you come back only to complain about the site and about the sense of superiority that gives commenting every piece with how the old avclub (which when you see it’s full of even worse toxicity in the comments) used to be better and how you threaten, again, to leave. Like you guys are poisoning this. If they close

After reading all your very articulate comments on this topic, I wonder why a guy that is obviously intelligent is so blinded up by... not seeing that his good experience was an exception. I mean, you are definitely hostile to the criticism.

jesus christ some of you guys go to such absurd levels on non sequiturs

I did not, I liked the review and defended it, though I matter shit in your view I guess.

What I really don't get is what is your point, at this point. What exactly do you want and expect.

the point is that you have to be careful saying hurtful things on the internet, as simple as that.

One advice I always give to anyone giving criticism online - do it as if the target of that criticism was sitting in front of you, listening. For two reasons: the “fuck around/find out” one and because you really want to remember there is a human being there in the target after all.

I am very intrigued - does the audience really want a backstory and a motivation for every little bit of the character?

No and I am laughing at how much do you all guys expect a very Vanilla and sanitised way of talking about film. The “I like it” or “is it good” is totally unimportant in some pieces, mostly the excessive ones, and mostly when they are recent in your head. “Cop out”, jesus christ, he does not owe you anything.

why not? What are you contributing to av club that makes it more interesting than this article?
