If you enforced a strict zero-cars-on-red rule, exactly ZERO cars would ever be able to turn left at many uncontrolled intersections.

Yes, you’re technically right, but that’s not how the reality of LA driving works. The 3-on-red rule is long established and the process of forcing a consistent 0-on-red would be a massive undertaking. I think the cars need to adapt to the reality of the situations they’re in.
Only on electrics and full hybrids. Most conventional ice cars have belt driven compressors
I’m pretty sure that was intentionally taken out of context by the idiot author of this ridiculous hit piece. Shame on you.
It’s interesting that Tesla would continue building cars without all their parts when most of the other manufacturers stopped their assembly lines until parts arrive. Having thousands of half-finished cars roll off the assembly line, then having to store them somewhere until they can be completed is a nightmare. First…
It’s almost as if Jalopnik writers are aware that hate posts on Tesla and Musk bring more clicks and therefore ad revenue.
I usually find the Tesla/Musk posts entertaining, if only to see the outraged reactions, but even I think this post was excessively bitter.
Electric motors aren’t like car engines. That 1000 hp capable motor isn’t analogous to a 8.0 V10 vs a 2.0 I4 in terms of fuel efficiency and weight. In some ways, the bigger motor is even more efficient as there isn’t much weight penalty for it and it can handle more heat (less wasted energy). It all comes down to the…
Someone here was completely clueless about the tech behind batteries and motors, a motor sized for a constant amount of ‘x’ power can generally develop burst ratings 2-4x higher than that for short periods given enough cooling, a bigger motor means more regenerative braking, for smaller brakes, not vice versa, a…
Target fixation is a bitch.
“Humans are pretty good at avoiding emergency vehicles parked on the side of the highway.”
Except autopilot doesn’t mean what people seem to think it would mean, there is no autopilot system in any industry that doesn’t require pilot supervision. If the press were a bit less hysterical and more factual about spreading the fact that people don’t understand even the definition of the word then maybe it would…
How is an electric bike used to get there when the highway is closed?
Which stock price? Neither The Boring Company nor SpaceX are publicly traded companies.
Detroit wouldnt be able to pay any settlement.
For speed bumps, yes. Speed humps however are less annoying for drivers obeying the speed limit, but they’d straight up yeet that truck.
Another question: what keeps them floating in place? I think they would just randomly drift around unless they’re secured. You’d need little thrusters to maintain position and control yaw while under motion I would think.
Sure. There’s nothing wrong with buying a big house if you’ve got the money. I would too if I’ve got the cash.
“Just live somewhere cheaper!” is almost always a bad take. He likes living in Los Angeles, and can afford to continue to do so. Good for him. He brought the criticism on himself with his years of red hot rhetoric, but that doesn’t make any of it reasonable.
