Saying they are losing $44k on every EV sale is highly misleading. /They are taking their total costs and write-downs of assets and applying it to every car sold. That is very different than the actual cost per vehicle for material labor and overhead.
They narrowed the lights, made the upper line straight, and got rid of the fog lights. That’s not huge change.
Tesla still has to buy the shares from the open market at market rates to turn around and sell to Musk at a rate much MUCH lower than the market rate, so they are still losing billions to make good on the options.
