IDK how I feel about it. On one hand it seems silly to make the car have an ICE sound when it’s doesn’t have an ICE. OTOH the car needs to make some kind of made-up sound, so why not?

I mean that’s basically what will happen with these leases/rentals also. Interest rates ultimately effect the cost to the consumer.

At the end of the day even a high mileage car has value to the owner. A rental car returned doesn’t.

You have to also consider the tax deduction impact. If you own or lease a car, you can deduct cost of depreciation and maintenance or standard mileage rates. Regarding your second paragraph, I don’t see that being different for any other company anywhere else trying to maximize profit. Any for-profit company will cut corners as much as they’re allowed to get away with. That’s why you have to lock down every spec and have proper QC.

A manufacturer tries to cut corners to maximize profit? I’ll alert the media! That’s why you have to have proper quality control and lock in the suppliers and materials spec. You can’t expect another company you hire out work to to do that for you.
