We really need to start including some creative writing classes for science-related Phds. "Galaxy X"?

They had me at "post apocalyptic." They lost me at "pioneers traveled to another planet..."

Now playing

No flame-throwing device list is complete without Dance Dance Immolation.

@Instantpontaneous: I think the 'no windows' issue is overstated. If everyone had an HD monitor in front of them and and internet connection, I doubt many would even notice. People don't seem to mind sitting in movie theaters for 2-3 hours, which is sort of what the seating would resemble.

Looks like Lockheed has a few of these "box-wing" designs on the drawing boards. They do appear to have 2 engines - the 2nd engine in the top pic is hidden behind the fuselage.

Here's to all the folks who had their "sign" tattooed on themselves!

@Wellmont: But it's not as simple as adding new terminals. If this blended wing body craft were ever made, there would have to be special terminals built just for it, which would limit where it could operate. Then airports would need 2 or more standards when it comes to loading passengers, cargo, and performing

I can confidentally say that there will, at some point, be modern space-age airliners. By 2025? Yeah, right.

@lucasway89: Engine above the body/wing, like the Boeing design, reduces noise considerably. A big part of any future will be carbon fiber tech for reduced weight. Less aircraft weight = more people/cargo = more $.

Can't we just put $10 in a low yield bond, wait 1000 years, cash bond, build time machine with money earned, travel back to now and put $10 in a low yield bond....

@Tadashii: GIS "fish house guz" and set to "large" pics....voila!

@taosaur: So does their time travel consist of going over a waterfall in a raft, then meeting some human-lizard people? I bet it does.

@PistachioWildebeest: Massive agreement here. The producer's line, "It's so made for a massively broad audience" just screams "dumbed waaaay down." Sad they don't appear to be thinking about paradoxes, the tt tech and such.

@nbd9000: Yes, the next story should take place inside a Mac IIc and it's all steam-punky inside, FTW!

@sometingwong: I hadn't heard that, but I guess that explains why he no longer has a site up. Why anyone would do that is beyond me, but hey, it's the internets.

@Mouser_UK: Indeed. Dammit, now I REALLY want to see this.

I wish more of these book posts mentioned the cover artists. I realize it's often more of a publisher-side thing than anything to do with the author, but since books are one of the few last products that often rely on cover art to grab the potential buyer or excite the reader, it would be nice to note them when

@Faustroll: With a detailed engineering drawing like the one above, how can it fail?

Either kids were more much more, uh, mature in the 60s, or Anderson just didn't care, but many TB eps had fairly adult themes. Also had lots of drinking. Maybe a new TB series could be like Mad Men, but for kids.
